The Most Effective Teeth Whitening Without Spending a Fortune

Tooth whitening solutions and products are everywhere. If you have been to a dental clinic recently, you will probably  have seen promotions and information about the best ever  high-tech laser procedure that will brighten your teeth in no time, with no side-effects at an affordable cost! Most of these dental procedures do work very well; however, the truth is they do cost a lot, especially since no dental insurance will cover cosmetic dentistry.

As an alternative treatment method to cosmetic dentistry, all sorts of over the counter teeth whitening kits have been developed and marketed.  Traditionally, bleaching gels and rubber trays were used to whiten the teeth and they are still being used. However, since the early 2000′s, major consumer goods manufacturers have introduced a host of whitening products that are not only more convenient and easier to use but are also more effective. These include teeth whitening strips, paint-on whitening products and even whitening mouthwashes.

If regularly and persistently used, these over the counter whitening products show significant whitening results in mild to moderate cases. They are much more affordable when compared to in-house surgical whitening procedures and also have fewer side-effects even in people with sensitive teeth.  However, these products note that the effectiveness can vary according to your consumption habits.  That is right, the most effective teeth whitening depends on your “habits”.

Prevention is the Cheapest and Most Effective Whitening Method

Unbeknownst to many people (perhaps because of all the propaganda and advertisement about teeth whitening these days), teeth “whitening” refers to the restoration of the teeth’s original colour, which is different from bleaching.  The best teeth whitening solutions are intended to bring back the colour of your teeth, which have been stained by foods, drinks and of course tobacco.

Although internal staining can occur due to root canal problems and aging, most darkened teeth are due to external factors, caused by consumption habits.  If you are a regular and frequent coffee lover, heavy smoker or have  taken certain anti-biotic drugs when younger, you have a higher likelihood of having dark teeth.

As with any other illness or physical condition, darkening of your teeth can be prevented.  Simply by avoiding or reducing the consumption of coffee and tobacco will significantly help your teeth from accumulating stain.  If you do decide to take surgical procedures or use expensive teeth whitening kits, changing your habit will greatly help the effectiveness of the whitening process.

Don’t Disregard Whitening Toothpaste and Mouthwash

If you have used a whitening toothpaste in the past just once, you probably think they don’t really work.  The fact is whitening toothpastes needs to be regularly used for about a year to show notable differences.  You don’t need to take any special measures but you do have to brush your teeth 3 times a day (or at least twice) regularly with a toothpaste that has active whitening ingredients.

Brushing your teeth will effectively remove any stain build-up and will be a regular and cost-effective long term approach to prevent your teeth from discolouration.  For those who want to see results faster, yet don’t want to use chemicals to bleach their teeth, finding the best teeth whitening mouthwash will also help.  After brushing your teeth, you should finish your everyday whitening “ritual” by simply using an over the counter mouthwash with whitening ingredients.  Through these preventative methods, you can save money and maintain a bright white smile.
